The pantry's heart is its volunteers. It is only through volunteer support that the mission to diminish food insecurity in our community is accomplished. We encourage you to join us.
On the 2nd and 4th Mondays of every month, we receive our food order from the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. The main activities of that day are unloading, sorting, organizing, and preparing for distribution the following day. One of the bigger jobs is the bagging of bulk produce. Volunteers generally arrive between 8:30 and 9:00 in the morning. The truck is scheduled to arrive between 10:00 and 10:30, and the day's work is typically completed by noon.
The next day (Tuesday), we distribute the received goods, and the jobs range from making and filling boxes to loading the food boxes and fresh produce into participants' cars. Activities like traffic control, participant intake, and the logistical concerns of keeping front-line volunteers well-supplied and removing trash from the workspace are also significant duties. While some volunteers arrive earlier and others stay later, a volunteer day from 8:00 a.m. to noon on pantry Tuesdays is a reasonable expectation.
The pantry food distribution system is well-coordinated and efficient, and we would enjoy having you participate. Please stop by at the times indicated; you will be greeted and offered opportunities in the areas most needing volunteers. Over time, you can gravitate to the area that best suits you. Remember to dress for the weather and wear closed-toed shoes.
